Summer Nutrition Tips for You and your Family!

Summer is just around the corner!!

The kids will start their summer break, which means the refrigerator and pantry will need to stay stocked.  Before becoming overwhelmed with the thought of how to keep your kids bellies full and your wallet full too (LOL!); here are a few tips to think about and consider implementing.

Summer Nutrition Tips

1. Good ole H20!!– you and your family can never go wrong with quenching your thirst with our God-given liquid.  Hydration is critical, especially in the southern states where the sudden transition from air conditioning to high heat can shock the body.  So to help avoid muscle cramps and headaches—and to nourish you skin—drink plenty of water.  It’s free too!!

2. Eat smaller meals, but eat more frequently Eating smaller meals, more often, is always a good idea, but especially in summer when people tend to miss eating at meal times or are suddenly presented with a picnic and plethora of food.  Lighter meals are also a good way to get nutrients without all the excessive calories.

3. Stock up on fruits and veggies for snacks– consider going to your local farmer’s market to get fresh fruits and vegetables.  These food items make awesome “on the go” snacks and will definitely keep your children’s tummies full between meals.

Get this..We all know that you can get the best “bang for your buck” when shopping at the farmer’s market.  So round up the kids and make it a nice family outing!

4. Meal plan– Now this bit of advice is for mommies like me, who absolutely detest coming up with meals “off the cuff”. LOL! I don’t like the feeling of not knowing what to prepare for my family; so it is imperative that I already have meals planned out.  Now, that’s not to say that I’m not flexible or that I don’t deviate from my meal plan at times.  But, I do try my best to have the meal ideas rolling around in my head, a week before, and then jotting down my thoughts on Sunday evenings.

Well, I hope these summer nutrition tips sparked something in you to make some healthy choices for you and your family while enjoying your summer with the kids.  Leave a comment below of some of your own summer nutrition tips that have aided in the health of you and your family!
