This was one of the first “food” documentaries to examine our food supply and how questionable it is becoming.  The documentary chronicles a man who eats only McDonald’s food for 30 days and tracks the drastic effect it has on his physical and psychological well-being.  It also explores the fast food industry’s corporate influence, including how it encourages poor nutrition for its own profit.

They encourage moms to trust their instincts, parent from the heart, use their innate sense of what is best for their children, live in balance with the Earth, and learn about the pros and cons of all health care and parenting options. – Pathways to Family Wellness envisions a world of thriving, empowered families who easily connect to inner and outer resources, practitioners, and a supportive community needed to create wholeness on all levels of existence.  This site offers extensive articles, research, and data on healthy living for the whole family.  Their magazine is a must to subscribe to—it’s one of our favorites and we give them out to out practice members. – This is another great website for the above average consumer who wants to know the truth on food resources, fraud, corporate and government cover-ups, and topics like autism, GMOs, and more. – Citizens for Health (CFH), the “Consumer Voice of the Natural Health Community,”  is one of the nation’s most respected, and powerful, consumer action groups dedicated to providing a voice and a platform for informed and effective health activism.  Founded in 1992, CFH is a non-profit organization that provides over 100,000 supporters with credible and well-researched consumer news, action alerts, and opportunities to protect and expand access to innovative dietary supplements, healthy food, non-toxic products, and integrative healthcare.

CfM provides information and resources that promote the local midwife, as well as midwives and midwifery care across the country. – This is a great birthing method, and I love the Bradley Method’s mission and vision of their classes, which stress the importance of healthy baby, healthy mother, and healthy families.  Their goal is to attract families who are willing to take the responsibility needed for preparation and birth.  They think that natural childbirth is an important goal since most people want to give their babies every possible advantage, without the side effects of drugs given during labor and birth.  Bradley Method® classes teach families how to have natural births. – The American Association of Birth Centers promotes and supports birth centers as a means to uphold the rights of healthy women and their families, in all communities, to birth their children in an environment that is safe, sensitive, and cost-effective, with minimal intervention. – The American College of Nurse-Midwives has embarked on an ambitious plan to help the United States refocus on and improve women’s health care services and, as a result, women’s health.  Their website is a great resource to find a midwife, and it aims to redefine how women understand the health care options available to them.  It reveals truths about the value of midwifery care and dispels myths about midwives in the United States, and it also describes the education and experience that midwives bring as providers of women’s health care. – A great site to find a doula, childbirth educator, or a birthing class, the International Childbirth Education Association (ICEA) is a professional organization that supports educators and health care professionals who believe in freedom to make decisions based on knowledge of alternatives in family-centered maternity and newborn care. – Dona is a good place to find a doula, or simply to discover what a doula does and if you might need one for your birth. Their organization supports doulas who strive to help women and their partners to have satisfying childbirth and postpartum experiences. – Holistic birth consultants who help you get excited about giving birth naturally. – This waterbirth website provides in-depth information on the use of water for labor, childbirth, and early childhood development.  If you’ve thought you might want a waterbirth, exploring this site is a must! – This 4-DVD set brings the wisdom, expertise, and insights of more than 30 world-renowned experts from all fields of science and health on topics about pregnancy, birthing, and having a happy, healthy child.  This is a must for someone that lives in a location that does not offer birthing classes, or the mother that wants to learn more.

Breast Feeding – The mission of La Leche League International is to help mothers worldwide to breastfeed through mother-to-mother support, encouragement, information, and education, as well as to promote a better understanding of breastfeeding as an important element in the healthy development of the baby and mother.  Their website is a fantastic resource for mothers and anyone wanting to learn about the essentials of breastfeeding or to get help with breastfeeding. – This is a really good place to find answers to all those questions about things that may come while breastfeeding.  The website hopes to help empower women to make the choice to breastfeed, and to educate society at large about the importance and benefits of breastfeeding. – This is a mother-driven website about simple questions we all might have about breastfeeding, as well as many blogs about different topics.  Their goal is to provide support and evidence-based information on breastfeeding, sleep, and parenting. – This website handles some of the tough issues surrounding breastfeeding and is the right place to find answers to your breastfeeding questions, and practical solutions to any breastfeeding problems you may encounter as you nurse your baby.

Foods – “Food Matters” features a plethora of information on natural health topics, nutrition-rich recipes, and interviews with leading health experts who reveal the best natural healing choices you can make for you and your family’s health. – Food Identity Theft alerts consumers about threats to the food we buy for ourselves and our families.  The Food Identity Theft Project for Citizens for Health believes Americans have the right to know what ingredients are in the food products they consume.  Food Identity Theft provides important facts to consumers about food safety issues, as well as ways to connect with Congress and government regulators to express their opinions and concerns about truthful food policies. – The goal of Super Healthy Kids is to educate families to become healthier.  With the proper knowledge, experience, tools, and resources, we can begin making changes to create a healthier generation of kids.  Super Healthy Kids offers all kinds of recipes, baby food ideas, meal plans and dishes for kids, and advice and ideas for everything from picky eaters to eating for a healthy pregnancy. – This foundation is dedicated to restoring nutrient-dense foods to the human diet through education, research, and activism. They really tell it like it is—there’s no political correctness on this website! – This is an interesting website explaining where our food comes from, and it seeks to protect sustainable and local farming and organic agriculture.
